Our results of RDS survey show that an important mechanism of housing loss are debts. Most likely, the cause of homelessness is not only the loss of housing and employment, but also the debt and financial problems that complement the previous two. As one of three possible causes of homelessness, around 30% of all respondents reported debt and debt problems. 40% of respondents said they had some debt before they became homeless.
We present first findings from the unique RDS (respondent-driven sampling) we realised last summer. 468 persons living in Prague or Pilsen (390 men, 77 women) participated in the survey. At the time of data collection 327 persons were living on the streets or in shelters and 139 in various institutions, lodging houses or flats. We´ll present all other existing results in the near future.
